We are pleased to announce that Corinth Films has acquired the exclusive rights to distribute two incredible collections of the best comedy of Laurel and Hardy, universally regarded as the finest comedy team in the history of motion pictures.
Collection One is 36 Laurel & Hardy Comedy Shorts, which include the best shorts of their early career – Including favorites like BIG BUSINESS, where “The Boys” start off selling Christmas Trees door to door in sunny Southern California and end up in a do-or-die battle with homeowner James Finlayson completely wrecking his home after running into trouble selling him a tree.
Also: TWO TARS, another favorite destruction film with The Boys on Navy leave renting a car and causing mayhem in one of the funniest car pile-ups ever put on film. ANOTHER FINE MESS - which became their classic punch line - where the Boys always put themselves in situations which turn out very badly and …very, very funny.
Collection Two is 120 LAUGHTOONS Short Episodes running approximately 5 minutes each, lovingly compiled from the best Laurel & Hardy shorts to highlight their comedy with a new orchestral score composed by George Korngold and new effects track to expand on the humorous events. These short episodes can be used on their own in a series of condensed comedy, or in conjunction with showing the complete short films, to fill out the running times to half hour, one hour or hour and a half comedy blocks. They are also perfect promotional excerpts to promote showings of a series of Laurel & Hardy’s best comedy.
A few thoughts from the many people who loved them:
Peter Bogdanovich - “Who couldn’t like Laurel & Hardy!! My favorite film is BIG BUSINESS.”
Jack Benny - "Laurel & Hardy were two very funny gentlemen. Their humor will always be
great because they do not rely on jokes. Instead, by placing themselves into
basic situations and then have something go wrong, they are understood by
people of all ages and all walks of life. They have been, excluding Charlie
Chaplin, the most popular –and most universal- comedians. Jokes may become
outdated, but the type of comedy Laurel and Hardy did will always be with us.”
Groucho Marx - “You ask me if I find them funny. I don’t find them at all these days,
but when I do, I find them very funny. And I find them funny, among other
reasons, because Stan Laurel had a skinny neck and Oliver Hardy a fat
stomach. As to why they are really funny, I leave that up to the professors
and the savants. I gave up trying to find out why people are funny a long,
long time ago.
34 LAUREL AND HARDY COMEDY SHORTS - As an Added Benefit we have over 100 Laughtoons - Five Minute condensed
Episodes of their best routines excerpted from each short as indicated.
